Middle school NACTEC Session is a success!
By Meredith | March 19, 2011
Four Diomede middle-school students were accepted to attend a week-long session at the Northwestern Alaska Career and Technical Center. “NACTEC was designed to provide Bering Strait School District and Nome Public Schools high school students with the necessary resources and skills for employment opportunities, the pursuit of postsecondary education, and independent living skills through instruction in four focus areas: career and technical skills, career exploration, life skills, and work readiness skills.” You can learn more about this program at www.nacteconline.org.

The students at this particular NACTEC session were from the villages of Diomede, Shaktoolik, Gambell, and Nome. During the day, the students learned about a variety of career options and interviewed representatives from different careers. They also had the chance to meet students from other villages and make new friends!

One of our 7th-graders says, “NACTEC is awesome because you would like to do some of the jobs when you get older.” |
| One of the other 7th-graders said about her time at NACTEC, “I liked doing the cleaning until I’m done, and I like to meet new friends.” |

Hello Diomede School,
My class found your school using Google Earth today.
I teach Social Studies at Hermon-Dekalb Central School a rural school district in New York State. We are curious about the geography of your area and any other information you might like to share with us. Our zip code is 13630 if you have any interest in our area.
Hope to hear for you,
Mike Jarvis
